Joel Wilson is a 30-something autistic adult. Joel’s lived experience journey includes being misdiagnosed with ADHD and living in 3 different group homes in two years as a teenager.

Joel has been involved in numerous leadership programs including Future Leaders at APAC 2013. He attended the United Nations as part of a youth delegation representing the Human Rights Commission and Australia’s youth with disability, and is a graduate of the 2015 Autism CRC Research Academy. At the start of 2016 he moved interstate from WA to Victoria to live independently and explore new opportunities.

Joel has spent 2 years mentoring children with autism as a support person; participated in projects run by the Autism CRC; and has spoken at numerous conferences including APAC 2015 in Brisbane. He works part time for the Curtin Autism Research Group, and is about to help run a study looking at what the general public knows about autism, to try find ways to break the misconceptions about autistic individuals.
